The Book Marketing Society is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Chair, Miranda McKearney OBE. The Book Marketing Society (BMS), an organisation founded in 2004 to champion marketing professionalism in the book publishing industry, is now part of Nielsen Book.

Miranda McKearney, founder (in 2002) and former CEO of national charity The Reading Agency, takes on the role from previous Chair Martin Neild, who has stepped down after five years.

Miranda McKearney said:  “I’m relishing the prospect of Chairing BMS at a time when the role of the book marketer has never been more challenging, or more needed. By rewarding and sharing great ideas, BMS helps incubate the innovation necessary to create new markets for reading.”

Martin Neild signed off his tenure as BMS chair by adding: “During my five years with BMS, I have seen it continue to develop into a very exciting, challenging and unique forum for anyone working in book marketing.  It enables members to stay ahead of the curve on trends in marketing and to exchange information on best practice and most successful campaigns.   I wish the society, and Miranda as its new Chair, every success in the future.”

In addition to the programme of fiercely competitive seasonal and annual awards for its membership, the BMS also has regular sessions to unpick success factors in marketing initiatives. Guest speakers present on topics such as social media strategy, digital discovery, marketing research, great copywriting and media partnerships and there is the opportunity for updates on trade events, networking and debating topics such as the demographic and technological changes affecting the market for reading.
