Best-selling author Richard Shotton gives an introduction to the field of behavioural science as it applies to publishers. We’ll cover some of the classic experiments that reveal the fascinating ways in which the human mind makes decisions about behaviour, as well as new and lesser known research that will give you the edge.
Most importantly, we will bring it all back to marketing, translating theory into practice in the context of your specific issues.

Emily Quinton, professional photographer and Instagram lover, will be teaching on the day, giving you all the tools you need to take great photos of your books on your phone.
Make sure you bring along your camera or phone and a book (or books) you would like to photograph.

A summary of the campaigns being discussed will be circulated ahead of the masterclass and audience members will be encouraged to come armed with questions. We are aiming for a wide-ranging discussion about creating campaigns with real impact.
At the end of the session, James will host a campaign surgery, allowing anyone to bring up challenges they are facing in their own campaigns. The session aims to be open and interactive, and has proved to be full of lively discussion in the past.

The BMS Primer workshop for book marketers is back on Monday 17th June. The one-day intensive event is targeted at those in the early years of their career, as well as those hoping to join the industry or wanting an update on latest developments. The full day offers an in-depth overview of book marketing, with new insights and the latest thinking around campaigns, available tools and resources.
The event will culminate in a session where participants will get the chance to create and present their own marketing campaign working with others across the industry.
