Marketing Director – Quercus

CLOSING DATE: 9 May 2022

CONTACT: Hachette HR

We are looking for an experienced candidate who is passionate about breaking new voices and ready to step up to Marketing Director level, managing a highly motivated, talented team of five. Reporting to the Communications Director, you will be responsible for planning and implementing your own outstanding, strategic and sales-driving marketing campaigns for Quercus; and helping us to develop our reputation as an ambitious, daring, socially conscious and diverse publisher. You will be expected to manage the marketing budget, be an influential voice on acquisition projects and author pitches, and to show curiosity and drive to keep ahead of the competition in how we find and reach new readers.

Overseeing the marketing strategy for all our imprints, you will drive campaigns for the full range of our publishing, managing top-level brand authors, building word-of-mouth bestsellers and developing dynamic pitches to attract new talent. You will be an experienced, innovative, enthusiastic and well-organised marketeer with a sharp mind for data and consumer habits. Ideal candidates will have a keen interest in all areas of the publishing process and the key role marketing can have in driving book sales and raising authors’ profiles. A strong leader and inspirational manager, you will ensure the highest standards of creativity and delivery, within budget and to tight deadlines. Working directly on the strategy and campaigns for key titles, you will be a team player and independent decision-maker.

Quercus is a young, dynamic, award-winning publisher, known as a hit-maker that regularly finds books that surprise and delight readers. We are international in our outlook – almost 40% of our authors are from 25 countries other than the UK and US – and have eight distinctive imprints that publish an exciting and diverse range of authors. From established bestsellers such as Elly Griffiths, Peter May, Beth O’Leary and Bill Bailey, to new voices such as Layla F. Saad, Candice Brathwaite and Amy Jeffs, what draws all our publishing together is the magic ‘quirk’ in Quercus: a commitment to independence, flare, warmth and creativity that has always marked out this young company.
