What you’ll be doing

Creating marketing materials of the highest quality for the wide range of Hachette Children’s Group titles, reporting to the Group Marketing and Communications Director and part of the marketing team.

This is a uniquely varied role, working with some of the most respected brands, authors and illustrators in the industry and requires working closely with editors and designers to ensure synergies between the printed book and marketing materials. Creative flair on all projects whether big or small is vital.

The job will require working on multiple projects at any one time but typical activities will include: producing new ideas and concepts, working with a wide range of media, including digital, reflective and photographic artwork, visualising and art-working skills, working on layouts, art-working pages and preparing files ready for print, working with the marketing team to deliver the final files to printers or other partners, keeping abreast of relevant software such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.

Who we are looking for

The successful candidate will be an excellent designer and artworker and will have demonstrable creative ability, with at least 2 years’ experience in marketing design, ideally within the publishing industry.

You will be a fully trained and experienced user of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and InDesign. You will be an excellent communicator and work well under pressure. You will have great attention to detail, a can-do attitude and be able to manage your time and prioritise your workload.

The Role

• Managing and implementing imaginative and innovative marketing campaigns on individual titles and brands
• Create engaging and targeted content ranging from sales materials to consumer-facing assets that range from online to outdoor
• Working with designers and other creative professionals to create engaging content to deliver creatives and visual materials that are on brand, optimised and engaging
• Working effectively to marketing budgets, negotiating national outdoor advertising campaigns, print and digital advertising spaces; and developing targeted and closely monitored social media advertising campaigns to reach new audiences for each book
• Collaborating with authors and their teams to develop enticing social media strategies for book campaigns and beyond
• Continuing to develop and understand Bloomsbury’s strong relationship with foodie influencers
• Staying on top of current food and restaurant trends, advising on competitors and working with the editorial teams to curate the list and produce pitch document to acquire new talent
• Proactively pursue partnerships with brand partners, media partners and key stakeholders to increase campaign visibility
• Devising and delivering the Bloomsbury Cooks brand strategy, including social media and email marketing, managing the department assistant to ensure effective implementation
• Liaise with the global Bloomsbury marketing team ensuring that, wherever possible, Bloomsbury is marketing its titles globally
• Work closely with the Head of Publicity to provide PR support as required, including attending author events and press days

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Experience in a marketing role and in trade publishing, ideally with some experience of working on cookery books and an understanding of the cookery retail marketplace
• Creative vision and excellent copywriting skills
• A good understanding of the foodie social media landscape, social media platforms and online marketing opportunities in general
• A flair for social media promotion
• Excellent organisation skills and an ability to work on several projects simultaneously
• Good eye for detail
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate colleagues of all levels, high profile authors and influencers
• Ability to cross-market and work with external brands and organisations
• Good presentation skills
