An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Marketing Executive (FTC) to join the team at Hachette Children’s Group. This junior campaigns role offers invaluable experience at a leading children’s publisher and the right candidate promote top tier authors, illustrators and books in a supportive, high performing, creative and award-winning team.
You will be responsible for planning, implementing and measuring creative and cost-effective marketing campaigns for allocated titles as well as supporting on larger marketing campaigns. You will be working across all areas of the HCG Trade list (picture books, licensing, fiction, non-fiction, pre-school, series, teen and YA), as well as the Franklin Watts & Wayland education lists. Campaign work will encompass the entire marketing mix including digital, partnerships, trade, advertising and influencer activity. You will also be involved in managing the Hachette Schools and HCG digital channels (social, website and newsletter). This role includes communication with our high-profile authors and illustrators and agents, and you will be the friendly, professional face of HCG both on email and in-person. You’ll create your own publishing networks, liaising with influencers, bookshops and other external partners as well as internal colleagues. Using your high-quality writing and presenting skills, we’ll ask you to produce material to promote our titles and represent HCG in meetings with external partners. The role also involves some general administrative tasks for the marketing team.
We are looking for someone who is creative, with excellent copywriting skills and a clear understanding of the consumer and how to reach them. You should also have strong social media skills and awareness of all digital platforms, existing and emerging. The ability to juggle multiple projects and a great eye for detail is essential for this role.
You will be a strong team player, able to work collaboratively as part of a team, liaising with multiple colleagues, with high-profile authors, illustrators, agents, licensors and booksellers, so you will need to be confident, with excellent communication and copywriting skills.
Proven experience in a marketing role is essential, as is a passion for books. Prior experience in the publishing industry is not necessary.
You will be joining a friendly, talented, collaborative team of skilled publicists and marketeers to support on award-winning campaigns across a wide variety of titles, including some of the biggest and best authors, illustrators and brands in children’s publishing.

You will be responsible for providing general assistance in the Marketing and PR team. You’ll also be communicating with our high-profile authors and illustrators, and be the friendly, professional face of HCG both on email and in-person. You’ll create your own publishing networks, liaising with journalists, influencers, licensors, festivals and bookshops, as well as internal colleagues. Using your high-quality writing and presenting skills, we’ll ask you to produce material to promote our titles and represent HCG in meetings with festivals and other partners.
We are looking for someone exceptionally organised, with meticulous attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple priorities, use MS office proficiently, as well as learning publishing platforms such as Biblio.
A passion for books and the media is essential and the ideal candidate will bring creativity and enthusiasm to the role. This newly created role within our Marketing Department offers an experienced and pro-active individual the opportunity to work closely with both Editorial and Sales colleagues from Canongate and Severn House, on a fast-growing and crucial area of the business.
This is a role for a passionate reader, who cares about reaching new audiences with established titles and driving corelist growth. At Canongate we use the term ‘corelist’ instead of ‘backlist’ because we feel strongly that this key part of our list, our DNA, should never be in the back of our minds or viewed in this way, as it is critical to the health of our business.
The role has considerable development opportunities and would be suitable for someone who is capable of collaborating across departments and understands publishing as a whole ecosystem. Someone for whom details matter, both in terms of metadata and in a desire to measure outcomes.
Key duties will include:
– Running campaigns around reissues, film tie-ins and seasonal moments
– Working with the Canons list and finding new ways and opportunities to promote it
– Running sales-driving AMS campaigns
– Maintaining excellent copy and A+ content, alongside relevant metadata and keywords
– Securing and maintaining partnerships with relevant organisations and retailers
– Working closely with Sales to deliver materials and drive ebook pricing strategy. Finding opportunities to promote audio and ebook editions
– Working closely with Editorial to decide on publishing schedules, rejacketing priorities and ensuring reprints are fresh and relevant
– Ensuring we meet or exceed our financial targets
This full-time position can be based in either our Edinburgh or London offices, reporting into a Marketing Director. Hybrid working is available.

You will have experience of multi-channel and multi-platform campaigns that create market cut-through. The chosen candidate will display strategic thinking and consumer awareness.

Working across new titles as well as catalogue books, including those with high level business priority, this role also includes brand management responsibilities for key authors.

- Briefing your list of talented designers and writing excellent copy to ensure you produce best-in-class, attention-grabbing campaign creative and consumer messaging across all your assets and marketing material.
- Closely working with our media agency to build well-targeted campaigns. You’ll need a strong awareness of digital advertising platforms, the ability to use self-services options as well as work effectively with freelancers, the ability to analyse campaign performance and share insights to inform both individual campaigns and team best practise.
- Devising year-round brand strategy for key Vintage authors, commissioning audience insight and translating data into actionable strategy, identifying opportunities to grow brand awareness, hands-on channel management and excellent communication of plans and results to authors and agents.
- Being commercially minded, curious and inclusive in your approach. Bringing diversity of thought and innovation into the marketing team by looking outside the business for ideas and inspiration to share with the team and improve our work.
- Bringing together your experience with audience insight to provide feedback on acquisitions and leading on the creation of pitch documents for prospective authors.

We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working in a busy marketing department, experience of working within a trade publisher is desirable
- Is an excellent communicator able to lead campaigns and collaborate creatively with a wide variety of stakeholders both internal and external to the business
- Is a creative and strategic thinker who is comfortable using consumer insight and market knowledge to produce market-leading campaigns with real impact
- Has experience across the full marketing mix, with a particular focus on delivering digital campaigns that demonstrably drive sales
- Is ROI-focused, able to effectively measure results and evaluate campaigns, and share learnings with wider team and stakeholders
- Enjoys reading widely with an active interest in the publishing industry – with a particular interest in non-fiction (politics, history, science, biography, nature writing) as well as fiction encouraged

- Has a proven track record delivering digital excellence across a variety of online platforms, both organic and paid, as well as building and maintaining online communities

- Has an active interest in the latest marketing trends and campaigns from across the book industry as well as the wider entertainment and media sector

The role reports in to the Head of Marketing and you will be joining a small but dynamic team, focused on building the best campaigns for our books and authors.
The role
- Create and implement well rounded marketing campaigns
- Effectively communicate marketing campaigns to all key stakeholders both internal and external
- Managing briefing and creative direction of marketing assets, digital and print and work with all key stakeholders to ensure the material appropriately markets the book
- Proactively identify and build partnerships for key titles, brands and authors
- Work on both title level campaigns and list marketing, including backlist in all relevant promotions
- Manage the creation and distribution of marketing material
- Manage and attend events and conferences relevant to the list
- Manage content for the online communities, social media.
- Work closely with publicity colleagues to ensure marketing and publicity campaigns are fully integrated
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Proven experience of working within a book marketing team
- A high degree of confidence and experience of owning a marketing plan and working with social media, enewsletters, online and offline advertising, working with brands and third parties
- Some design knowledge needed, ability to work in InDesign/Photoshop/Canva
- Video editing skills would be an advantage
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience of reporting plans internally and in author/agent meetings
- The ability to multi-task and work on several different projects simultaneously
- Good copy-writing, proofreading, design and project-management skills.
- Good time-management and people-management skills.

The role is a full-time permanent position
Salary Pay Point: £35,000
The role is based at our London office (50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP) on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are Monday and Tuesday.

Children’s Marketing Manager – 9-12 months fixed-term contract

Faber is a leading independent literary publisher. We publish a diverse range of high-profile authors such as Kacen Callender, Emma Carroll, Swapna Haddow, Jason Reynolds and Lauren St John, and we have a backlist containing the works of T. S. Eliot, William Golding, Seamus Heaney and Sylvia Plath, among many others. Faber’s Children’s list spans picture books to YA crossover, through gift, graphic novels and non-fiction. We give teachers and educators the books they need to nurture, support and inspire children to become the great minds of the future. Faber is also a supplier of sales and distribution services to independent publishers and has a market-leading creative writing school.
We’re looking for a Children’s Marketing Manager (9-12 months fixed-term contract, minimum 3 days a week) to join the team. With responsibility for all marketing on Faber’s Children’s list, you’ll be a confident and creative campaigns marketer looking to contribute meaningfully to building the Children’s list and brand both within the trade and to consumers.
This is a role for somebody who can put digital marketing at the heart of our campaigns, who can brief beautiful artwork and stand out copy, with a brilliant understanding of the Children’s market, and how to get retailers excited about our books. You’ll help us reach readers from ages 2 – 18, through picture books up to Young Adult fiction, with authors such as Jeffrey Boakye, Emma Carroll, Chris Mould, Jason Reynolds and Francesca Simon.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and implementing all marketing campaigns for the Children’s list, working closely with the Children’s publicist and the Children’s Communications Assistant to create coordinated, holistic and sales-driving campaigns
- Providing marketing feedback at all stages of the publishing process including acquisition, covers and positioning
- Building relationships with authors, illustrators and agents including campaign meetings and pitch meetings for acquisitions
- Producing proofs, presenters and samplers for trade sellin
- Managing the Children’s campaign budgets
- Digital strategy for Faber’s Children’s list social media channels
- Working closely with the Children’s publicist to plan and execute exceptional events
- Other duties as may be required that are within your skill and competence.
The position reports to the Deputy Marketing Director and we will consider applications on a full-time or part-time basis (minimum 3 days a week). This is a hybrid position and the candidate will be expected to work at least a day a week from our offices in central London.
