Andersen Press is looking for a Head of Marketing (maternity cover) to work across our internationally successful children’s publishing list. including picture books, fiction and young adult books.

You will be joining a small but enthusiastic and collaborative team. You will be responsible for leading and implementing all marketing campaigns to promote our front and backlist titles. You will also work closely with the PR and Brand Director on achieving maximum exposure for the much-loved pre-school brand Elmer the Patchwork Elephant during a very busy anniversary year. This includes supporting charity partnerships, growing the annual Elmer Day celebrations, and promoting licensed products on the Elmer brand social channels.

You will be highly self-motivated, creative and resourceful with the ability to work on several projects simultaneously. You will be an exceptional communicator with strong copy-writing skills and a keen interest in social media. Attention to detail, an eye for great design and excellent organisational skills are essential. Experience of working with design software (InDesign/Photoshop) is desirable and previous experience in children’s publishing is highly preferred. We are looking for somebody with a proven track record in leading creative and effective children’s marketing campaigns.

This role is a full time maternity cover and offers hybrid working. Our office is in central London.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Planning and implementing marketing campaigns for individual children’s and YA titles and brands, in line with the publishing strategy
  • Management of budgets
  • Devising social media strategies, and creating engaging digital content
  • Briefing designers and handling the printing of all marketing materials, POS, adverts and visual assets for campaigns
  • Coordinating the creation of our seasonal and annual catalogues to deliver within agreed timelines
  • Communicating marketing campaigns to internal and external stakeholders, including authors, editors and our sales team
  • Maintaining ongoing partnerships with external brands and organisations, and working with them to promote a range of titles

About the role

We have the rare opportunity for a full-time Digital Marketing and Content Executive to join the Women’s Prize team on a one-year fixed-term contract. The position will report to the Executive Director with day-to-day matrix reporting to the Digital Director, and be a core part of the team, speaking directly to readers and writers across our channels daily, crafting content that aligns with the Women’s Prize Trust’s core values and delivers our mission to champion equity for women in the world of books.

This role will be integral to the small Women’s Prize Trust team and will provide support across a variety of digital activations, campaigns and events. The postholder will work on owned, earned and shared digital channels. This might, for instance, mean creating content for and publishing to the Women’s Prize Trust website and scheduling newsletters (owned), creating social media engagement, post and reports (earned) and providing assistance for content and digital activations on partner channels (shared). Person Specification

Ideal skills and experience:

  • Experience managing multiple social platforms and a track record of creating engaging brand content across Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Facebook and others

Walker Books is home to a list of award-winning and bestselling children’s and YA authors, illustrators and brands. We are looking for a creative and results-driven Marketing Officer to join our Consumer Marketing team and devise effective marketing campaigns across the list.

We’re looking for a marketeer with plenty of ideas for campaigns that will engage readers and drive sales. You will be a confident communicator, adept at juggling a range of projects and deadlines.

In this role you will work across the marketing mix, writing engaging copy, briefing our in-house design team, external agencies and printers, developing partnerships with third parties, managing campaign budgets, and co-ordinating marketing activity at events.

You will also co-ordinate the digital elements of your campaigns, including setting up social media advertising, briefing trailers/photography, liaising with agencies on influencer activity, producing newsletters, and assisting on campaign websites. It is important that you have knowledge of the social media used by our various audience groups, and how best to leverage this in campaigns.

The role requires a strong background in marketing and a passion for children’s books. We’re looking for candidates with marketing experience from within publishing, or from working on key children’s brands, who are keen to take the next step in their career in a small and friendly team.

 

The Details:

Be responsible for the creation, implementation and execution of innovative consumer marketing plans for Walker’s books, brands and authors/illustrators:
• Contribute ideas and opinions to marketing strategy and campaign planning meetings, working closely with colleagues in the Publicity and Trade Marketing teams to co-ordinate activity
• Write engaging copy across a wide range of marketing materials and media
• Brief in-house designers, and external agencies, on projects
• Develop relationships with appropriate third parties to promote our books
• Cost and monitor budgets for campaigns, ensuring the in-house budget is kept up-to-date
• Develop relationships with print suppliers and organise the production of promotional materials
• Analysis of campaigns to inform future planning
• Maximise opportunities for sampling/data collection at events and organisation of marketing events where relevant
• Develop relationships with key authors/illustrators and their agents/estates, and communicate marketing plans with them on a regular basis
• Contribute to monthly board reports updating on consumer activity
• Liaise with the BA/Legal team to ensure all campaigns have the relevant contracts/permissions and are GDPR compliant

Work with the Senior Digital Marketing Manager on all aspects of digital marketing, social media and website activity:

The SDMM is responsible for all digital marketing and social media output from the marketing team, and is responsible for mentoring the MO in the digital marketing elements of campaigns, as well as ensuring all output is effective and on brand.

You will co-ordinate the digital marketing elements of your campaigns including:
• Working with illustrators/freelancers on the creation of videos, trailers and photography
• Setting up, running and feeding back on social media advertising (Instagram, Facebook, You Tube)
• Working with external agencies on digital/social campaigns, including paid-for influencer activity, primarily on TikTok and Instagram
• Strong working knowledge of social media channels and best fit for our different audience demographics, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, You Tube, Twitter
• Working with PR on campaign ideas to engage online influencers, with a focus on TikTok and Instagram
• Updating campaign mini sites and competition pages
• Creating and managing email newsletters
• Liaising with authors/illustrators on their online marketing ideas, and supporting them where appropriate
• Keeping abreast of emerging digital and social media trends
• Working with the SDMM and Business Affairs/Legal team to ensure that all digital marketing campaigns and elements are compliant with GDPR law and have the relevant permissions/agreements

 

The following experience, skills and knowledge are essential:

Experience of:
• The basic principles of marketing
• Minimum two years in a publishing or marketing environment
• Communicating confidently both in-house and out-of-house
• Working to tight deadlines and juggling a range of campaigns
• Demonstrable understanding of digital marketing and social media and how to apply this to campaigns – taking in, but not limited to, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, You Tube, Twitter

Proven skills:
• Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
• Working across a range of social media platforms, as outlined above
• Ability to plan, prioritise and manage a varied workload

We are looking for a data-driven and creative marketer to join the Vintage team on a fixed term basis as Head of Campaigns, to cover a period of parental leave beginning May 2023. The Head of Campaigns is responsible for driving sales of our books and building profiles for our authors through strategic, best-in-class marketing campaigns, working on some of the biggest and most important marketing campaigns for the division. This role also leads the marketing team’s online strategy across advertising and retail platforms and has three direct reports.

The Role 

  • Run frontlist, catalogue and sustain campaigns of all levels, including those with high level business priority, with a strategic, commercially-minded and creative approach
  • Lead on year-round brand management for some of Vintage’s biggest and most exciting brand authors, including Yuval Noah Harari and Haruki Murakami, with ambitious activity to meet agreed objectives and timelines
  • Proactively reach diverse audiences with campaigns with an outward-looking approach, going beyond ‘traditional’ / established media channels and working with different types of media to target communities as a core part of marketing campaigns
  • Lead digital marketing strategy for division, including analysing and championing digital effectiveness and taking responsibility for Vintage’s ebook promotional strategy to achieve results; all in close collaboration with sales
  • Work closely with editors on positioning and copy for key publications, leading on rebranding/repositioning projects for key authors
  • Heavily involved in acquisitions, providing feedback, leading on pitch documents and presenting to authors and agents in pitch meetings, with a focus on Bodley Head (Vintage’s non-fiction imprint)
  • Be the line manager for three specialist roles within the team (Marketing Manager, Senior Digital Marketing Executive and Senior Data and Marketing Insight Manager), overseeing their output and career development
  • Work closely with the Brand Director on catalogue strategy to ensure Senior Digital Marketing Exec can work flexibly and reactively on catalogue campaigns and is able to make quick, independent decisions about channel selection, targeting, creative and copy and to discuss budget requirements
  • Deputise for the Marketing Director when needed – for example at the publishing meeting, covers meeting and in team meetings and communications
  • Expand Vintage’s agency and partner relationships
  • Embed a sales- and data-driven approach to campaigns in the team, focusing on priorities, best investment of time and resource, and a focus on analysis and optimisation
  • Manage own campaign budgets

 

Candidate Profile 

  • Proven track record in meeting KPIs, delivering campaigns to highest possible standard across high profile titles
  • Experience working across commercial and literary fiction and non-fiction who will be a vocal ambassador for Vintage’s publishing
  • Strong team leader, ideally with at least 2 years’ people management experience – approachable, respectful, a good and supportive listener with a solutions-focused approach
  • Confident running self-service advertising campaigns across platforms, e.g. Meta, TikTok, Google, as well as with using Adobe Creative Suite
  • A strong eye for design and an understanding of what makes a consumer pay attention, with a track record of producing impactful campaign creative
  • Excellent copywriting skills married with clear audience understanding
  • Able to interpret insight and trends as relevant to any campaign or project
  • Deep understanding of the books market and publishing landscape
  • Significant experience of working with agencies – from media agencies to creative teams across different media
