Canongate Books is one of the UK’s leading independent publishers and we’re looking for a dynamic and hard-working Head of Marketing to join our Campaigns team. The role can be full time or part time (as a job share), based in our offices in Edinburgh or London.

This role would lead the marketing team, deliver creative and effective marketing campaigns and help shape the strategy for Canongate’s brand and company. Reporting into the Commercial Director, it is a role for a highly creative and organised leader with great market awareness and excellent communication skills.

Key responsibilities include:

· Overseeing the marketing strategy for all Canongate titles and brand activity
· Running creative, effective and innovative marketing campaigns for fiction, non-fiction and children’s books – delivering bestsellers, managing brand authors, launching debuts and everything in between
· Developing Canongate’s brand strategy including overseeing the website and social media channels
· Managing, motivating and empowering the marketing team
· Representing marketing at key meetings including Acquisitions, Publishing, Design and all-staff meetings
· Managing marketing budgets and analysing marketing activity
· Developing pitches to attract new talent and maintaining existing author and agent relationships
· Working closely with the Publicity and Sales teams to drive sales

Key requirements:

· Significant experience of delivering book marketing campaigns
· Team management experience
· Great communication skills and the ability to work creatively and collaboratively with authors, agents and teams in-house
· Highly organised and adept at multi-tasking
· Enthusiasm for the books we publish and a determination to succeed

In addition, although not essential to this role, would be experience of running marketing campaigns for crime fiction books and international marketing.

Salary: £38,000 p/a+ (salary dependent on experience, hours and location)

Experience in a digital marketing role is essential, in children’s or trade publishing is desirable but a background in marketing other children’s products could be transferable. A passion for children’s books from baby board books all the way up to Young Adult is a must.

Key responsibilities:
• Designing and implementing attention-grabbing digital and social media marketing campaigns which drive book sales
• Managing the Little Tiger social media accounts and website, including content creation and scheduling, audience-building and engagement, analysis and reporting
• Identifying brand and influencer partnership opportunities to grow Little Tiger’s profile and drive book sales

Resourceful and motivated, you will be buzzing with ideas and the knowledge of how to translate them into action, and juggle multiple projects with initiative and efficiency.
