Are you a creative marketer with a sense of adventure?

Can you create innovative campaigns for some of the world’s best authors?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Marketing Executive to create audience-driven campaigns for Penguin General, working across our Viking, Hamish Hamilton, Fig Tree and Penguin Ireland imprints. Reporting to the Senior Campaigns Manager for Marketing, you will handle your own campaigns as well as supporting the wider marketing team on priority titles and undertaking some administrative tasks.

Penguin General publishes a diverse range of books and authors – including William Boyd,  Dolly Alderton, Zadie Smith, Robert Macfarlane, Ben Macintyre and Michelle Obama – so you might be working on serious non-fiction one day, and a gripping novel the next.

You’ll be working in a creative culture with intellectual energy which nurtures enduring professional relationships and offers excellent training in a friendly, supportive team.

From day to day, you’ll be chatting with editors, authors, and agents – getting to know their stories better than anyone. You’ll then plan how best to launch their books into the bestseller lists, by producing eye-catching on and off-line promotional activity that intrigues and interests people. In order to do this, you will be continually developing your knowledge of:

  • the audience for our books with the help of our Consumer Insight team,
  • Amazon as a vital sales and marketing platform
  • new developments in social media and digital marketing.

Combining your creativity with digital skills, you’ll manage digital campaigns across Amazon and social media, writing and delivering content plans as well as interpreting the data behind campaigns.

Using your expert knowledge of a book or author, you’ll help our sales team bring retailers on board so they champion the book from word go. You’ll also connect with external partners, exploring opportunities to promote our stories together, and take an active lead on the department’s influencer engagement strategy.

You’ll bring bags of enthusiasm and ideas to each campaign, using your initiative to make the most of your budget, however great or small. You will be an excellent and versatile copy-writer with keen developing digital skills including Photoshop and website CMS. You’ll also have a knack for social media, not just understanding how it works, but what makes people sit up and listen.

It goes without saying you’ll have a passion for books, and you’ll always be identifying great features which you think readers will really respond to.

With solid marketing experience under your belt, you might be an assistant looking for your next step, or you may be at the rung above and ready for a new challenge.

Please apply with your CV and cover letter no later than Friday 12th July.
